Bridges, Tents & Rivers

Next Step #266: From Arizona - the "hair cut" dilemma (almost) - connecting dots with a River Runs through it. After analysis, doing it. The Transfiguration - Did you miss the point? You'll be surprised who else did! A mellow look at some difficult ideas.

Threatening Justice in Big Ways

Next Step #222: Hungary releases a killer/Azerbaijan rewards a killer and Justice is threatened everywhere. Fr. Vazken pushes the story outside of politics with a reminder of Dr. King's warning, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everyone." Catholicos Karekin II calls for action. Moving the clock from 24 hours to 140 characters and moving the Christian outside his/her comfort level. A "Baku style wedding" leaves everyone moved to tears as a King and Queen take their child to the altar of God - a true story from Fr. Vazken's journal of Deviations from Orthodox practices in favor of Armodoxy. Final thoughts on Neil Armstrong, not forgetting Michael Collins.

Finding the Jesus Tax Code

Next Step 219: Why isn't juggling in the Olympics? H2O-Polo Coach Adam Krikorian on the world stage with honesty and integrity. Taking the "Next Step" beyond the words of the Bible and allowing the Gospel to live. Affecting a World with the Power of Armodoxy. Syria - a directive to help. Grapeblessing challenge. Debating Jesus' Tax Plan. Making Jesus work for your argument - it's an exercise in spinning statistics - so exercise caution!

Phenomenon: Believing in the Faith

Next Step #212: Returning from a trip to Wisconsin, Fr. Vazken explores some of the challenges of a Virtual Church. The Importance of touch, action and empathy in the Christian equation. Interview with Fr. Nareg Keutelian, pastor of St. John the Baptist Armenian Church, on technology, the church and the phenomenon of non-ethnic Armenian Church members. Is this where Armodoxy is headed?

Elements of the Conundrum

Next Step #202: In a month of Resurrection we're commemorating Genocide. Puzzle? Conundrum? Changing the language of conflict and understanding victory in terms expressed by Jesus. The path of the politicians, the challenge of St. Paul and the power of Christ come into play in this "Genocide Edition" of the Next Step.  Fr. Vazken brings it all together with a Christian message that is powerful, victorious and full of peace. Also -The April shower of tears won't lead to May flowers this time, but will attempt to alleviate nausea. Religiosity of the shakers and movers, the rejection of the intelligentsia.

Purifying the Dogs of Midwinter

Next Step #191: The Church comes alive as it lives its mission in creating awareness for Domestic Violence and a shelter for the abused. Religion meets relevance, as Fr. Vazken takes the discussion from the Groundhog's Day, to Diaruntarach to purity. Can you preach what you don't believe? Then, how can Christians light a candle, pray to pictures and close their eyes to abused women and hungry children? Add some dessert to the cafeteria menus of religion in this one. Maternity leave according to the Bible. A farewell to Ken.

Virtual Reality Check via Christ

Next Step #177:  The Next Step runner gives cause for a metaphysical test which then leads to a reality check. Virtual reality in cases of images, concepts and God are checked by the reality around us. Can God be checked? Christ gives us a sure-fire method of making God real in our lives. Identity check with the Armenian and Christian realities. More on the family as the story of sacrifice unfolds.

The Mother of Love: A Different Perspective

Next Step #165: In preparation of the feast of Assumption, Fr. Vazken takes a step toward understanding St. Mary as a model for saying yes to Love. This is more than the story of an angel visiting the Blessed Mother of God, it's about a visit we receive daily to become ambassadors of God's Love in the world. This is prelude to the feast - part one of two. Also - thoughts on self-worth and the plight of women in the world. St. Mary opens a discussion about women's issues that cannot be dismissed by the Christian.

Ascension (Hampartzoum) Offensive

Next Step #156: Forty days after Easter - it's the feast of Ascension (Hampartzoum). Drop the superstitions and get into gear – a look at Matthew 28:16-20 as a message for then and now. Fr. Vazken looks for inclusion in the 1933 King Kong tribe and the chorus of Anush Opera. Meanwhile – avoid those virgin martinis by taking the Christian Offensive and stopping the numbskulledness.

Office Icons Point to Love

Next Step #141: The Simpsons have the Blinky fish. The Chevy in Blythe has a Bobble-Head Jesus. Fr. Vazken’s office has some icons too – not too far off, once you get Shnorhali’s key. All icons point to Christ so long as the Shnorhali formula is in place. Armodoxy is an intelligent alternative to what’s being thrown out at you – and nothing that promotes love can be “appalling.” Wrapping up a Valentine's week with stories and song: Catholicos Karekin II builds traditions for newlyweds, but not without precedents. A look at Sam Harris’ “Letter to a Christian Nation” – don’t be afraid atheists, as long as you have love. March 6 is the kick-off for a VERY SPECIAL Easter Season.
